When you receive your Brightsign media player, please follow these instructions to ensure a smooth setup. DO NOT follow instructions you see on the Brightsign device itself when it’s plugged into a screen and do not follow instructions included in the box.
If you did set up your Brightsign device without Gipper, see the “Resetting a Brightsign device that was previously connected without Gipper” section below.
Setting up a brand new Brightsign device for the first time
Follow these steps when you first receive your Brightsign device. It is important that you follow the steps in order.
| IMPORTANT: If you already set up your Brightsign device without using these instructions, go to the “Resetting a Brightsign device that was previously connected without Gipper” section below to reset your device first. |
- After you receive the device, open the box and take out the following pieces:
- Brightsign Player
- Wi-Fi antennas (2)
- Power cord
On the Brightsign player, remove the 2 black rubber covers for the antenna ports. Then screw an antenna into each port. The end result looks like this:
NOTE: You will need to supply your own HDMI cable
- Find the serial number of the Brightsign device. It’s located on the back of the device itself.
- In your Gipper account, go to Displays > Screens > Add screen > Select Brightsign Player then enter your serial number and name the device. Once you click Add screen, the newly added screen will now have the status “Setting up device…”.
- Take the Brightsign device and the power plug to a location where you have temporary access to Ethernet (ethernet is only required for initial setup). Plug the Brightsign device into power and ethernet, then let it sit (you do not need to plug it into a screen at this point). Let the device sit connected to ethernet and power for 15 mins.
If you plug it into a screen, you can ignore the instructions on the screen. During this period the device will be downloading software updates, connecting to Gipper, and rebooting itself multiple times.
- To know when Step 3 is complete, you can login into your Gipper account, go to Displays > Screens and look at the status of this new screen. When step 3 is successful the status of your device will be “Online”. If Step 3 takes longer than 1 hour, please reach out to support.
- Once the status is “Online”, you will now need to configure Wi-Fi. In your Gipper account, go to Displays > Screens. Click on the Screen card that is now online to access advanced settings.
In the section Wi-Fi settings click Edit. Enter the Network name and Password then click Save. When the Wi-Fi settings finish updating you will see a status in the Wi-Fi settings section letting you know that you are successfully connected to the network. If there are any issues during this process, you will see more information in this section.
- Once your device is successfully connected to Wi-Fi, you can unplug the ethernet cable and move the device to the appropriate location.
Resetting a Brightsign device that was previously connected without Gipper
If you set up the Brightsign device on your own without using Gipper, or if you are using a Brightsign device that was previously used with another Brightsign account, you will need to follow these steps to reset the device so that it can connect with Gipper.
Please follow these steps in the exact order below.
- Login to your Brightsign account where you set up the device originally. Go to Admin > Provision and delete the player from the Provision table by clicking the delete (trash can) icon.
- Go to the Network tab and find the player. Click the gear icon for the player to access settings.
- Navigate to the Control tab of settings, find the Reprovision section then c,lick the Reprovision button, which will cause the player to reboot. While the player is rebooting, you will see a message that says “The player is rebooting to complete the requested action” (this does not disappear on it’s own). If your device is plugged into a monitor/TV, you will see the Activate screen when this process is complete.
- From the Network tab, click the delete (trashcan) icon to delete the player. If you happen to see an error message that says unable to delete, refresh the Network tab page as the device was likely successfully deleted.
- All set! The device is now removed from your BrightSign account, and the data on the device has been erased. It is now ready to be paired with Gipper. See the “Setting up a brand new Brightsign device for the first time” section above
